Panna cotta is a classic Italian dessert that literally means 'cooked cream'. This recipe for four comes with a tasty orange garnish.
Panna cotta:
750 ml double cream
150 ml milk
1 vanilla bean (or 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar)
100 g Sukrin icing
5 gelatin sheets
Garnish:
2 oranges
Panna cotta:
Soak the gelatin sheets in cold water. Slice the vanilla pod in half and scrape out the seeds.
Bring the cream, milk, vanilla bean/seeds and Sukrin icing to a boil and simmer for approximately 5 minutes. Remove the vanilla bean from the panna cotta mixture (save it for the syrup garnish), and squeeze the water out of the gelatin sheets. Stir the gelatin sheets into the mixture until fully dissolved.
Pour the panna cotta mixture into serving cups, glasses or bowls and place in the fridge to cool.
Garnish:
Peel the oranges and remove the pips and skins. Cut into cubes. Spread the orange cubes evenly over the panna cotta once it's hardened.
Tip: This recipe can be varied with other berries and fruits.
